What is the CREATE Fund?

The Credit for Agricultural Trade and Expansion (CREATE) Fund was established to facilitate the raising of capital for lending to Zimbabwean agriculture value chain actors. The ultimate purpose of the fund is to contribute to the recovery and improvement of the smallholder farming sector in Zimbabwe, leading to increased food security and incomes of rural households.

Through the Create Fund ZADT manages a credit facility, which avails capital for on-lending to Zimbabwean agricultural value chain actors with the aim of improving the smallholder farming sector, leading to increased food security and incomes for rural households. This also includes capacity building for borrowers. The Fund is on-lent through three funding windows: the Inputs window, the Output/Marketing window and the Storage/Processing window.

ZADT and its partners established the Fund after recognizing the pivotal role of access to finance in the recovery of the agriculture sector in Zimbabwe. It was also realised that there is acute shortage of appropriately priced and structured credit instruments in the country's financial markets. ZADT and its partners are therefore constantly engaged in capital raising efforts in line with demand for funds for social development.
