Apart from providing finance the ZADT assesses technical support needs based on in-depth discussions and analysis of the requirements of target stakeholder groups (financial institutions, value chain actors and smallholder farmers) who confirm and agree their requirements for technical support. Based on identified technical support needs and availability of funds, the ZADT identifies suitably qualified service providers to provide the capacity building and technical support required.
The support involves:
- Identifying and facilitating capacity development for potential borrowers intending to access the ZADT facilities so that they can prepare bankable proposals for submission to disbursing financial institutions. This includes applicants whose proposals would have been rejected by financial institutions.
- Liaising with the lending institutions to determine the training needs of their own staff handling the ZADT Funds as well as borrowers post-lending. Borrowers also identify the training needs of smallholder farmers that are linked to them.
- Continuously engaging lending institutions to come up with innovative products to serve the targeted beneficiaries as well as dealing with the collateral/ security issues. As the banks see fair returns on their lending, the confidence and trust in rural clients will grow and bigger funding amounts will be availed to this sector.
The ZADT continues to mobilize resources for this support.
